The Houston Astros have signed 7th round pick (197th overall) James Ramsay, and 13th round pick (377th overall) Kyle Westwood. Both players have been assigned to Tri-City of the New York-Penn League.
James Ramsay is a left-handed hitting outfielder from the University of South Florida. He led the Bulls in batting average (.337), slugging (.449), hits (82) and total bases (109) this past season. He was named an All-Big East selection for the second year in a row.
Kyle Westwood is a right-handed pitcher from the University of North Florida. Last season, he had a 4-1 with a 3.75 ERA, and 71 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched for the Ospreys.
I was reading some of the reports on these guys. Ramsay seems to be contact hitter who doesn't strike out much. He also a plays tremendous defense in the outfield. If you want to read a great report about Ramsay, check out his profile on Bottom9 Blog.
Westwood is a solid pitcher who strikes out a lot of batters. In college he split time between the bullpen and starting rotation. so it will be interesting to see how the Astros want to use him in their organization.
