The Long Island Ducks swept a crucial doubleheader from the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs yesterday to move within three games of first place.

The Ducks won the first game 2-0, behind strong pitching from Dontrelle Willis. Willis didn't allow a run in 5 innings while giving up only four hits, and striking out five. Ben Broussard lead the offensive attack with three hits, including a solo home run. Bryant Nelson also had a solo shot. Leo Rosales finished off the Crabs in the 9th inning for his 10th save of the season.

Game two was all about newly acquired Bill Hall, who went 2-for-4 with 6 RBI including a grand slam. John Brownell pitched a solid 7.2 innings as the Ducks rolled 9-2.

Here are the recaps from the Ducks website!

The Ducks are now within three games of first place, and have a chance to move within one game if they can sweep another doubleheader from the Blue Crabs today.

Ben Broussard has been on fire for the Ducks hitting .388 this season. Broussard has been hurt for a better part of the season, but has been sensational when he's played.

Ben Broussard didn't play professional baseball for three seasons, but is lighting it up for the Ducks in 2013.
The Ducks pitching has started to settle down, posting a team ERA of 2.74 over the last 49.2 innings.  The bullpen hasn't allowed a run in their last 15 innings pitched.
