Ducks Put First Half Behind Them, Start Off Second Half On Fire

The Long Island Ducks have put a tough first half of the season behind them and started the second half on fire, going 4-1 through the first five games.

Last night, the Ducks beat the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-2, behind another strong outing from Dontrelle Willis. Willis pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only four hits while striking out three.

Bill Hall has put up solid power numbers for the Ducks over the last week. During that span he has three home runs with seven RBI and a .720 slugging percentage.

Joash Brodin continues to be among the league leaders in batting average (.330).

The Ducks may have started the second half on fire but lost a major part of their offensive when Ben Broussard signed with the Kansas City Royals organization on Thursday. I can't imagine their won't be other signings forthcoming, especially for someone like Dontrelle Willis who is pitching great (5-3 record with a 2.68 ERA). I've watched Dontrelle pitch three times this season and every time it seems like he gets better and better. His fastball looks like it has more velocity on it,  and he seems to be more control of the game. I can't imagine a major league organization won't take a flier on him.

The Ducks will face the Bluefish again today and then have four days off for the All-Star break.
