The Albany Dutchmen kick-off their fifth season on Wednesday, June 4th against the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs at Bellizzi Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm.

The Dutchmen look to make a return trip to the PGCBL playoffs behind 2013 PGCBL Coach of the Year Nick Davey. Last season the Dutchmen fell in game three of the semi-finals to the eventual champion, Amsterdam Mohawks.

Like many college summer league teams the Dutchmen don't have many returning players from their previous years roster. In fact the Dutchmen only have two, Jose Hernandez from Dean College, and Nick Morton from Trinity University (TX). While there may be new faces, the same fundamentals and intensity will be exhibited with Nick Davey at the helm.

One of the more interesting players I'm excited to see play this season is Reid Matthews from Coastal Carolina University.  Matthews was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 35th round (1,052nd overall) of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Dobyns-Bennett HS (Kingsport, TN). Instead of signing with the Pirates organization that season he opted to go to college, where he attended Walters State Community College (TN) for two seasons. He eventually transferred to Coastal Carolina but saw limited action in 2014. Matthews will get a chance him to play every day in Albany, so it will be interesting to see how good he can be.

It's hard to judge what players will have the most impact for the Dutchmen this season since they all come from different colleges and universities across the country. However, it's amazing to see these plaers come together on the field. That for me is the most amazing to watch.

This should be another amazing season and hopefully another step towards a championship.

Check back here throughout the season as I'll be posting pictures of various games.
