Dutchmen and ValleyCats Face Off In Exhibition Tomorrow

The Albany Dutchmen and Tri-City ValleyCats will face off in an exhibition tomorrow at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY.

In recent memory I can't remember when a professional team has played an exhibition game against a college summer league team.

At face value it seems like this game is just an exhibition...and it is. However, it's also a huge marketing event for the Dutchmen and the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL). While many fans travel to Troy (NY) to see the ValleyCats; many have never heard or attended a Dutchmen game. Many of those same fans have never heard of the PGCBL who have four teams located within an hour of Albany, NY.  Bellizzi Field, home of the Dutchmen is only a 15 minute drive away from Bruno Stadium. It will be interesting to see if this game will raise awareness about the Dutchmen and the PGCBL and drive fans to their games.

As for the game itself it will fun to see how the Dutchmen match up against the ValleyCats. It will also be the first time fans get to see the 2015 Tri-City ValleyCats.

While the 'Cats are a professional team most of their players are fresh out of college or high school which is similar to the Dutchmen roster which is made of up college underclassman. The Dutchmen have been together for a few weeks while the ValleyCats still haven't played a game together. I don't expect the ValleyCats to over work any of their players so we'll probably see pitchers get limited innings and wholesale substitutions late in the game. I see this game being much closer than people expect.

The game is slated for a 10:00am start tomorrow and tickets will only be $5.
