Center, Mike Vecchione signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers today.

Vecchione, a Hobey Baker finalist tallied 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 points for the Union College Dutchmen this season. His 63 points tied him for most in NCAA Division 1 hockey.

The Saugus, Massachusetts native led to the Dutchmen to the NCAA Tournament this season and was named 2016-2017 ECAC Player Of the Year.

Vecchione is also Union's all-time leading scorer with a 176 points.

This wasn't a shock that Vecchione signed with the Flyers considering his former Union teammate  and current Flyer star, Shayne Gostisbehere has been hinting that he'd like him to join the Flyers. Also, the agency that represents Vecchione, Sports Professional Management has Flyer ties as Flyer great John LeClair is one of their agents and is a friend of Vecchione's agent Mark Toof.

According to hockey insider, Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period, the Los Angeles Kings have a "significant interest" in signing Union College star Spencer Foo.

The Union College Dutchmen advanced to the ECAC semifinals in Lake Placid, NY after a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over Princeton on Saturday night.

The Dutchmen took an early 2-0 lead but the Tigers clawed back tying the game at 2-2. An Alex Riche power play goal at 18:50  of the third period put Princeton ahead 3-2 and silenced the Union crowd.

Then the drama happened...

As time ticked down in the game, Spencer Foo picked up the puck and skated in the front of the net, slipping a goal past Princeton goalie Colton Phinney tying the game with 21 seconds left.  The play was reviewed and upheld eventually sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, Mike Vecchione picked off the puck at mid-ice, broke away from the pack and headed in on the goal. He was taken down in front of the net but Brett Supinski put the rebound past the goalie and it looked as though Dutchmen had punched their ticket to Lake Placid. However, the play was reviewed and the goal was waved off on a goaltender interference.  The referees did call a hooking penalty on Joe Grabwoski for the takedown of Vecchione on the play and Union was given a penalty shot.

Mike Vecchione supplied the rest of the drama putting the penalty shot in the back of the net, sending Union College to Lake Placid and the ECAC semifinals.
