Albany Empire Ink First Two Players; Local Products Canzeri and Hansen

The Albany Empire announced the first two signings of their expansion season on Monday when they inked former Iowa Hawkeye running back, Jordan Canzeri and former Virginia Tech offensive lineman, Wade Hansen.

Canzeri, was a standout running back at Troy High School before heading to the University of Iowa. Canzeri saw his workload increase over his four years in Iowa City, eventually becoming the teams featured back in 2015. That season Canzari rushed for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns while racking up 204 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Hawkeyes finished 8-0 in the Big Ten that season and 12-2 overall, with their only losses being in the Big Ten Championship game to Michigan State, and the Rose Bowl to Stanford.

Canzeri was invited to camps with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Rams but didn't make their rosters. He played overseas the last two years for the Elecom Kobe Finies of the X-League in Japan.

Canzeri will be playing predominately as a wide receiver and kick returner for the Empire.

Hansen, a native of Brunswick, NY was an Section 2 All-Star at Tamarac High before heading to RPI for college. After two seasons at RPI, Hansen transferred two Virginia Tech where he eventually switched from a defensive lineman to an offensive lineman. Hansen played in 13 games for the Hokies in 2015 but only started three of those games. In 2016, Hansen became a starter, starting 13 games for Virginia Tech that season. He was awarded the Wes Worsham award during his senior season.

After leaving Virginia Tech, Hansen was invited to camps with the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers but didn't make their rosters.

The Albany Empire start their inaugural season on April 14th as they face defending champion the Philadelphia Soul.
