30 Second College Hockey Preview: Army vs. UConn (10/12/13) and Merrimack (10/13/18)

Army West Point hockey will look to rebound this week after a tough 4-1 loss to Union in Schenectady, NY last Saturday. The Black Knights were unable to find their offense with their lone goal coming by defenseman Dalton MacAfee.

They'll look to start their season off on the right foot against two Hockey East programs in UConn and Merrimack.

UConn finished last season with a 15-19-2 record (11-12-1 in Hockey East). They return one of the top goalies in the ECAC in Adam Huska, who finished last season with a 2.59 GAA and .912 save percentage. Also returning are two of their top four scorers in Benjamin Freeman with 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) and Alexander Payosov with 20 points (12 goals, 8 assists).

Merrimack (0-2) started off the 2018-19 season by dropping two games to Lake Superior State last weekend. The second game of two was a 1-0 heartbreaker in which Merrimack goalie Craig Pantano stopped 24 shots but allowed a lone goal which was the difference. Jonathan Kovacevic leads the Warriors early on in the season with three points (one goal, two assists).

For Army to have a successful weekend they'll need to their offense going, which includes Michael Wilson and Dominic Franco. Wilson had some good looks last week against Union but couldn't score while Franco existed the game early after game-misconduct penalty midway through second period.
